Película de animación basada en el aclamado juego Final Fantasy VII. Ubicada dos años después del juego, la historia se desarrolla en una época en que una misteriosa plaga, el síndrome de la estrella: Geostigma, cuyos síntomas aun no son relevados, empieza a hacer efecto afectando todo el planeta a la vez. Miembros de Soldado que fueron modificados mediante la célula de Jénova, andan tras la pista de madre.
